Middle School

Our aim is to create a happy, safe, fun and nurturing environment, where your child will develop academic, creative, spiritual and emotional skills. Our desire is that each day your child will feel like they are coming to their second home with a beautiful environment to work in. We are fully aware of the sensitive years that lie ahead, and we intend on supporting and guiding them on this special journey. We believe we can create a truly magical experience for them.

We believe teachers should run the classroom, not administration. We use a combination of engaging and dedicated teachers with current technological offerings to create a curriculum that is both engaging and challenging.

Our academic offerings:

  • Oak Meadow for 7th Grade Math and Thinkwell for 8th Grade Math

  • Duolingo for Spanish

  • Global Village for language arts and social studies combined with amazing classes from our local teachers

  • Our science class alternates each year between the biological and physical sciences, run by the best science teacher in Nosara!

If you were a fly on the wall in our Middle School, here are some of the special things you would see....

  • A morning circle of fifteen to twenty-five students, sitting on the stage having meaningful conversations, singing songs and discussing world interests.

  • A group of students practicing social emotional tools such as breathwork, meditation and yoga.

  • Ms. Emily acting as Mama Bear for all the students, whether it be for those who need a shoulder to cry on that day, or maybe just for those that need a big hug in the morning!

  • Students lying in hammocks, sitting at tables, or hanging in our cozy den, collaborating on math, language, social studies and science projects.

  • Students writing plays and songs, choreographing dances, making movies and practicing theater.

  • Students making and painting props or possibly just tinkering around with a few bits and bobs.

  • Students eating home-made local cuisine, created by our friendly staff.

  • Students playing on aerial silks, reading in our silent room, or playing soccer, basketball, football, and volleyball.

  • Friendly dogs sleeping on the floor, cats stepping on homework, and chickens running across the football field, and sometimes even a couple of cows, horses and monkeys!

  • Music playing, incense burning, and homey cooking smells wafting from the kitchen.

Social Emotional

A key feature of our middle school curriculum is Social Emotional learning, dedicated times throughout the day for students to build relationship and self-awareness skills. Every morning, students and teachers participate in a morning circle check-in, where everyone has the opportunity to express feelings, thoughts, and ideas in a safe, welcoming environment.

Throughout the week, community leaders such as Ryan Miller and Ellen Bradley work with the students on respecting others and healthy relationships, while mentors like Jake Roussos help navigate self-confidence, respect, awareness.

In between these designated periods, our teachers work tirelessly to ensure that every student feels comfortable, safe, and seen. While support is always available, students are also encouraged to take breaks and relax on their own. Watching and cuddling our dogs and cats are popular ways of unwinding; at least one student always has a furry friend in their arms sparking smiles and laughter.

A typical week looks like this:

We welcome all families who are kind, supportive, loving, open-minded, and have an appreciation for the arts. We would be honored to have you be a part of Nosara Playhouse and look forward to getting to know your child. We truly believe this will be a very magical and transformative experience, from which your child will benefit from for years to come.
